Narrative Idea of Establishment:

We initially, came with the narrative idea about drug-dealing within the snooker club, which is attached as Blog 5. However, we all decided this was not a suitable crime drama, since it seems quite basic to be a new television crime drama; we were also after something unique. Upon this we decided to refer to our past experiences of studying variety of Crime Dramas during our theory lessons; such as ‘Life on Mars’, ‘Prime Suspect’ and ‘The Shield.’ After that, we determined to follow the style model of ‘Prime Suspect’-Jane Tennyson; who was presented as a central character as a Detective. This particular character inspired us since this is usual role found within Crime Dramas; the following picture below indicates this character.

Based on this we created our main character but we input a twist which we decided to make this character a Lady Villain. Since I believe nearly all crime dramas as well as the ones we studied shows men in control, whereas females are either victims or passive. As a result, in our new television Crime Drama we determined to make this stereotype into an opposite situation. In this case, to make the female archetype into a villain and the male archetypes into victims, but we wanted one original role of character by having 1-2 male place officers, in order to relate to a typical crime drama convention. After that, the group decided what will she do? *** Hamza brought the idea of Hostage. Upon his thought, we as group decided she will keep two male victims in Hostage situation at a flat.

The idea of location-flat was gained by Sameea, who decided to use her friend’s flat which is located in ‘New Town’.

Narrative and Central Character Description:

The lady villain will keep the two male victims in a hostage situation...This is because out of an unexpected situation the two fathers appears to claim full custody, since they view her as an unhealthy and unfit mother. Then, she took the revenge to keep them in hostage to protect her children as mothers will do and pay back what they done to her years before which was she had two children who are the fathers of them and both abandoned her before the children were born as a result she suffered from serious post-natal depression...

Narrative Style:

This Crime Drama will follow narrative style of a single-strand linear narrative. In other words, our crime drama will have one focus of a story and setting. This will also have a chronological-order of a basic narrative; good beginning, middle and end.

3 mins Sequence:

As part of sequence we were told to make 3 minutes opening; initially, I have decided to view the location of where she lives. In this case, flat and the area surrounded by it, this is because to follow a typical crime opening. At the same time, polices are going to around, I have decided to show this clarification of evidence by using sound effect of police siren to build a sense of reality.

She is going to be dressed casually to symbolise she is a normal woman, that she cannot possible harm anybody. The two hostages will be shown on the ground floor abandoned flat. This theme is related to the title of our crime drama ‘Ground Floor.’

Soon the police officers will arrive to collect the 2 hostages. But only one member of the police will be brave enough to talk things through with her by the window. At this climax point, he will ask her why you are holding them in hostage, she will reply ‘Do you wanna know why?’ This is the moment where the will sequence end!

Location/ Setting:

As already mentioned we are going to use a high-rise flat located in ‘New Town, which belongs Sameea’s friend. In this case, in an urban city, which is a common convention- setting found within crime dramas. We have also decided to have a midday setting, which is a usual setting established within most crime dramas at times.

Below are images that demonstrates the possible opening sequence to our Crime Drama along with the cinematography work I have decided to put in, also with graphic editing, based on the research ideas I have found from CIS (Crime Investigation Scene) and NCIS, which are reinforced with the below ‘YouTube’ clips I have inserted. However, I have print-screened the images from ‘Google Maps’ due to the rise of a ethical issue- confidently reasons because this is a flat where sameea’s friend lives. Therefore Sameea informed me that she is unable to take photos of the location, as a result I decided to choice this solution.

Opening Sequence Idea:

In summary, during these two lessons of the week we as a group gained and achieved the narrative, sequence, location/ setting and character to our project ‘New Television Crime Drama’!
